Racing Incident Report

FISHKING EXCELLENT was slow to begin. At the 1100 Metres, CARRY GOOD NEWS became unbalanced when crowded for room between TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND and FLYING KENNY which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GLOBAL WAY. Near the 800 Metres, FISHKING EXCELLENT was checked away from the heels of CARRY GOOD NEWS. Near the 700 Metres, FISHKING EXCELLENT was checked and shifted out abruptly when close to the heels of CARRY GOOD NEWS, causing MY LANSON, THE ONLY ONE and WATCHMAN to be severely hampered. As a result of which WATCHMAN became badly unbalanced and blundered. BAAZIGAR, which was following WATCHMAN, was checked to avoid the heels of that runner. No action was taken. Also near the 700 Metres, GLOBAL WAY became unbalanced when close to the heels of HURRICANE WAY. In the early part of the Straight, MY LANSON had difficulty obtaining clear running and then approaching the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of FLYING KENNY to obtain clear running. Also in the early part of the Straight, BAAZIGAR was held up for clear running. Approaching the 300 Metres, TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND raced tight inside HAPPY ALL AROUND. TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND was then held up for clear running behind WISDOM EXPRESS and inside HAPPY ALL AROUND until passing the 100 Metres. When questioned, Apprentice C K Tong (WISDOM EXPRESS) said he had initially been instructed to ride the horse in a midfield position with cover if possible. However, when discussing the race in the Parade Ring prior to mounting, Apprentice Tong said it had been decided in consultation with Mr K L Tsui, assistant trainer to Mr A T Millard, trainer of the horse, and the owners that due to an anticipated lack of speed it was acceptable to ride the horse further forward, however, he should endeavour to obtain cover. He said in the early stages he rode WISDOM EXPRESS along from its wide gate to cross runners on his inside and he had hoped after crossing to the fence to avoid being caught wide, other runners would improve around him and provide him with cover. He said when this did not occur WISDOM EXPRESS was left racing in the lead. Mr Tsui confirmed the riding instructions initially issued to Apprentice Tong and also the pre-race discussion held in the Parade Ring. FISHKING EXCELLENT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FISHKING EXCELLENT after the race did not show any significant findings. TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND, MOONGLOW and CARRY GOOD NEWS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported CARRY GOOD NEWS had lost its left front plate and MY LANSON had lost its right front plate.
