Racing Incident Report
FLYING TAMARI was a little slow to begin and then lost further ground when crowded for room between SPARKLING STAR and MASTER MARAUDER which began awkwardly and shifted in. At the 1000 Metres, ESPERANZA became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of LUCKY MONEY. PRESENT TREASURE hung out making the Home Turn. From on straightening until near the 300 Metres, FLYING TAMARI was held up and unable to improve when travelling behind LUCKY DIAMOND and inside the heels of MAN IN THE MIRROR. Near the 300 Metres, FLYING TAMARI was shifted in to obtain clear running. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, DASHING THUNDER was held up and unable to obtain clear running. After the 200 Metres, SPARKLING STAR was awkwardly placed when unable to improve between LUCKY MONEY and ESPERANZA. When questioned regarding the improved performance of MASTER MARAUDER, Mr J Moore, trainer of the horse, said prior to its last start the horse had a blood abnormality. He said in the lead up to the race the horse's blood was taken and after consultation with his stable Veterinary Surgeon it was considered suitable to start MASTER MARAUDER. He said on that occasion however the horse failed to muster speed in the early stages and was disappointing. He said subsequently the work of MASTER MARAUDER had pleased him, however, he did only give the horse an outside place chance in today's race. He said he endeavoured to engage a 10 lb claiming apprentice for today's race, however, he was initially advised that rider was not available, therefore Apprentice C W Wong was engaged to take advantage of his 7 lb allowance in preference to the 5 lb allowance of Apprentice H W Lai who rode the horse at its last start. F Coetzee (LUCKY DIAMOND) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said LUCKY DIAMOND was left racing without cover after the 900 Metres, however, in his opinion was disappointing in that it failed to respond to his riding in the Straight. LUCKY DIAMOND was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, LUCKY DIAMOND was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY DIAMOND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MASTER MARAUDER and FLYING TAMARI were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported LUCKY MONEY was bleeding from the mouth.
