Racing Incident Report
DON FELIPE was withdrawn on 1.12.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (colic). Before being allowed to race again, DON FELIPE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CLASSIC PARTNER was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (deceased). With the intention of being ridden quietly, JIANG JUN was slow to begin and then taken across behind runners. Shortly after the start, GALLANT LION was steadied and taken across behind runners. At the 1000 Metres, FERRO BEAU was steadied away from the heels of RIVER JORDAN. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, ENGINEERING WONDER hung out. Making the Home Turn, TRIUMPHANT UNICORN was carried wider by GOLD STRIKER which when being shifted to the outside of SIROCCO got its head on the side and shifted out further. Some inconvenience was caused to SUNNY POWER which was following TRIUMPHANT UNICORN. After the 400 Metres, SURVEY SURVEY became unbalanced when improving into a narrow run between SIROCCO and GOLD STRIKER. From shortly after straightening until near the 250 Metres, GALLANT LION was not able to obtain clear running. Near the 200 Metres, GALLANT LION was steadied and shifted out to go forward. Also near the 200 Metres, RIVER JORDAN, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of SUNNY POWER. When questioned regarding the improved performance of SURVEY SURVEY, Trainer A S Cruz said prior to being imported to Hong Kong the horse had won on an artificial surface. He said after arriving SURVEY SURVEY had trialed well on the All Weather Track and it was therefore decided the horse should have the first start on the surface. He said at its first race start SURVEY SURVEY was slow to begin and then travelled wide throughout and in his opinion was somewhat disappointing. He said subsequently SURVEY SURVEY had pleased the stable in its work and he believed today's improved performance was brought about by the horse enjoying a better run. He added he had given SURVEY SURVEY some chance in today's race based on its pleasing track work. JIANG JUN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, JIANG JUN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. SURVEY SURVEY and SUNNY POWER were sent for sampling.
