Racing Incident Report

SUPERB was withdrawn on 27.11.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore fetlock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUPER DANA. Before being allowed to race again, SUPERB will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING OF SPADES was slow to begin. HAPPY ASH began awkwardly. Despite being ridden along out of the barriers, BIG WINNER failed to muster speed. Near the 1300 Metres, SUPER DANA bumped with THE ONLY ONE and became unbalanced. After the 1000 Metres, HAPPY ASH got its head up when close to the heels of EXPLORATION. At the 600 Metres, BIG WINNER was steadied away from the heels of SUPER FANTASY. Approaching the Home Turn, EXPLORATION commenced to give ground. On straightening, HAPPY ASH and THE ONLY ONE were checked to avoid the heels of EXPLORATION. BIG WINNER, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of HAPPY ASH. Shortly after straightening, BIG WINNER was steadied and shifted to the inside of RIGHT CHOICE to obtain clear running. The performances of HAPPY ASH and EXPLORATION, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, HAPPY ASH and EXPLORATION will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of THE ONLY ONE, F Coetzee explained at its most recent start it was able to obtain a forward position and travelled comfortably. He said because of the fast tempo in the early stages of tonight's race, THE ONLY ONE travelled midfield. He said when runners commenced to improve around his outside at the 500 Metres, THE ONLY ONE did not quicken and as a consequence was left racing behind tiring horses. He said in his opinion the poor performance of THE ONLY ONE was attributable to the manner in which tonight's race was run. THE ONLY ONE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of THE ONLY ONE after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER FANTASY, SPACED and MILITARY OPTION were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 30 November 2006)
THE ONLY ONE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. THE ONLY ONE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being permitted to race again, THE ONLY ONE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
