Racing Incident Report
Following the running of Race 1, the Stewards questioned Mr A S Cruz, trainer of HELLO PRETTY, regarding comments which they had become aware of saying the horse had blood present in the vicinity of its mouth following track work last Thursday morning. Mr Cruz said he was unaware of this occurrence, however, he did point out HELLO PRETTY like a number of his horses did work in a tongue tie. He said he was not able to say if there was blood present at the mouth of HELLO PRETTY that it originated from the horse's tongue. He said HELLO PRETTY had eaten well following its work and in his opinion the horse was suitable to race today. The Stewards directed HELLO PRETTY be examined by the Veterinary Officer who said he was not able to detect any abnormality and in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. In the early stages, SATURN proved difficult to settle and on several occasions got its head up. B Prebble (HELLO PRETTY) was warned for the manner in which he gesticulated after the winning post. E Saint-Martin (VIVA PATACA) was unable to offer an explanation for the performance of the horse. He said VIVA PATACA travelled comfortably until prior to straightening. He said at this time he endeavoured to have VIVA PATACA commence to go forward gradually, however, the horse did not respond as he expected it would. He said in the Straight VIVA PATACA whilst making some ground did not close the race off as it had in the past. He did say the work of VIVA PATACA leading into today's race was in his opinion good. VIVA PATACA was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of VIVA PATACA after the race did not show any significant findings. HELLO PRETTY and SATURN were sent for sampling.
