Racing Incident Report

GRABBIT was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was taken across behind runners. Making the first turn, POSA was steadied when awkwardly placed inside WAIT FOR ME which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from TRAVEL LEADER. After the 1400 Metres, SUPER DANA was left racing without cover. After the 500 Metres, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE raced tight inside TRAVEL LEADER (D Nikolic) when attempting to shift out from behind BARRACUDA into clear running. D Nikolic was warned against allowing his arm to shift out away from his body when racing tight. Shortly after straightening, POSA was steadied and shifted to the outside of WAIT FOR ME into clear running. In the early part of the Straight, WAIT FOR ME hung in. For some distance after the 400 Metres, BROWN BEAUTY had difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 300 Metres, SUNNY RIVIERA was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of TRAVEL LEADER. D Nikolic, which performed poorly, explained the horse travelled comfortably until after the 600 Metres outside the leader. He said at this time he placed TRAVEL LEADER under pressure, its head came up and in his opinion it did not feel comfortable in its action. He said shortly after this TRAVEL LEADER commenced to give ground. G Mossé (SUPER DANA) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said SUPER DANA raced flat today and was under pressure from the 600 Metres. He said SUPER DANA did not respond to his riding and in the Straight gave ground. SUPER DANA, TRAVEL LEADER and HAPPY HEROES were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER DANA and TRAVEL LEADER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, HAPPY HEROES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY HEROES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GRABBIT, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE and HAPPY CONTENDER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported GRABBIT had lost its right front plate.
