Racing Incident Report
From the outside barrier, GOLD FIELD was taken back in the early stages, then passing the 1300 Metres when carried to a three wide position by SEASONS TREASURE was steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail. KOWLOON FIT proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages. After the 200 Metres, KOWLOON FIT was shifted to the inside of CHEERFUL HEART to continue going forward. Near the winning post, KOWLOON FIT improved close to the heels of AQUA-TREASURE and because of this was not ridden out to the post. When questioned regarding the intention of having KOWLOON FIT ridden more quietly tonight, Mr J Size, trainer of the horse, said prior to the race he had a discussion with E Saint-Martin, the rider of KOWLOON FIT, at which time Jockey Saint-Martin suggested it would be in the horse's best interest to have it ridden more quietly as at its last start the horse proved difficult to settle and did not finish the race off. Mr Size said he agreed to have KOWLOON FIT ridden more quietly and he anticipated the horse would obtain a position in front of midfield with cover. He said while KOWLOON FIT travelled further back than he had anticipated, he was satisfied with the riding of E Saint-Martin. Mr Size did say if circumstances permit in KOWLOON FIT's future starts the horse will be ridden in a more forward position. E Saint-Martin confirmed the pre-race discussion with Mr Size, however, he stated he had misunderstood Mr Size's wish to have the horse in front of midfield. He said when KOWLOON FIT began well, he was able to have the horse immediately come back underneath him and shift across to the rail. He said despite being behind midfield he was concerned if he had ridden KOWLOON FIT along in the early stages to be further forward, the horse would have commenced to over-race. E Saint-Martin was told he has a responsibility to ensure he properly understands riding instructions issued to him and where circumstances permit he follows those instructions. GOLD FIELD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GOLD FIELD after the race did not show any significant findings. EYE WITNESS and MILLENNIUM SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
