Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, the Veterinary Officer noted KING HESPERUS had a mild abrasion to the inside of the left knee. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. EVERGREEN was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between CITY SURFER and SMART HORSE which was carried in by LEGIONNAIRE. Making the first turn, CITY SURFER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOP HONOR. Apprentice K L Chui (GLOBAL WIN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that making the first turn he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WADADELIGHT which was crowded, shifted in and in turn caused crowding on its inside to LEGIONNAIRE, resulting in that horse losing its rightful running and being checked. In the circumstances of this case, Apprentice Chui's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to expire on Sunday 8 October 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 27 September 2006. When LEGIONNAIRE checked, SMART HORSE, which was following, was checked in consequence. After the 1200 Metres, LIVERBIRD was steadied away from the heels of TOP HONOR. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, CITY SURFER hung out. At the 250 Metres, KING HESPERUS was shifted to the outside of GLOBAL WIN into clear running. In the Straight, SMART HORSE shifted wider on the track whilst being ridden out. When questioned regarding the improved performance of GLOBAL WIN today, Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of the horse, said when it raced first up at Sha Tin on 16 September 2006, it began awkwardly and was then ridden along to obtain a forward position. He said on that occasion GLOBAL WIN commenced to give ground from the 300 Metres because of it being used up in the early stages. WADADELIGHT and KAISER'S PRIZE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WADADELIGHT and KAISER'S PRIZE after the race did not show any significant findings. AQUA-TREASURE, GLOBAL WIN and KING HESPERUS were sent for sampling.
