Racing Incident Report
UNIVERSAL PIONEER was withdrawn on 21.9.06 by order of the Stewards (stable transfer) and was replaced by 1st Standby Declared Starter TABBRIS. CHAMP DRAGON was withdrawn on 23.9.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory infection) and was replaced by 2nd Standby Declared Starter GOOD TO GREAT (Apprentice C K Tong). Before being allowed to race again, CHAMP DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, SHATIN WIN WIN bounded in the air, bumped the outside gate of its stall, became unbalanced and lost ground. DONGGUAN VICTORY was slow to begin. In the early stages, TOP TOP LIGHT proved difficult to settle. In the early and middle stages, TREASURE RAIDERS proved very difficult to settle and after the 800 Metres pulled its way forward. At the 500 Metres, DOUBLE FANTASY was steadied away from the heels of NOT QUITE PERFECT. From on straightening until after the 300 Metres, GOOD TO GREAT was held up and unable to improve behind TABBRIS and TREASURE RAIDERS. Near the 300 Metres, EXPEDITIOUS, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, was shifted to the outside of BOREAS into clear running. Throughout the race, DASH travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice C K Tong (GOOD TO GREAT) said from the inside barrier and racing over 1400 Metres he was instructed to endeavour to have the horse in a forward position. He said because he was aware GOOD TO GREAT did not usually show natural early speed, he rode along vigorously in the early stages to ensure he was able to carry out the instructions issued to him. BOREAS, which performed poorly, was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, BOREAS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BOREAS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WIN PRACTITIONER, TOP TOP LIGHT and EXPEDITIOUS were sent for sampling.
