Racing Incident Report
CHEERFUL HAPPINESS began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. DEFLECT was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, WISHING WELL failed to muster speed. At the 1200 Metres, SUPER BONUS was momentarily crowded for room inside TIMBER CITY which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of LIBERAL'S RIDE (D Whyte) which shifted in when not properly clear. D Whyte was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WISHING WELL was checked to avoid the heels of NOBLE ZOOM which at this time was carried in by FLASH HARRY which got its head on the side and shifted away from FLORAL ARTS. No action was taken. Approaching the 600 Metres, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS was steadied away from the heels of SUPER BONUS. After the 600 Metres, SUPER BONUS was checked when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TIMBER CITY. CHEERFUL HAPPINESS, which was following, was checked in consequence. No action was taken. After the 400 Metres, DEFLECT was steadied and shifted to the outside of UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR to obtain clear running. For the major part of the race, FLORAL ARTS and CAPTAIN BUNNY travelled wide and without cover. The performance of FLORAL ARTS, which was tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FLORAL ARTS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte explained the horse is still green. He said at the horse's last start after travelling outside the leader, the horse reached the front in the early part of the Straight, then was reluctant to close the race off. He said therefore today he allowed FRIENDS FOREVER to cross him in the hope that LIBERAL'S RIDE would travel more comfortably and be carried forward into the race. He did say in the early part of the Straight there was not an opportunity for him to obtain clear running, he therefore after the 300 Metres steadied his mount and shifted to the outside of SOUND OF SILENCE. He said when he did this LIBERAL'S RIDE got its head on the side and hung out, proving difficult for him to ride. When LIBERAL'S RIDE shifted out after the 300 Metres, inconvenience was caused to FLASH HARRY which as a result was steadied. D Whyte was told whilst the Stewards accepted LIBERAL'S RIDE was proving difficult for him to ride, he nonetheless was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight. DEFLECT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DEFLECT after the race did not show any significant findings. SOUND OF SILENCE and LIBERAL'S RIDE were sent for sampling.
