Racing Incident Report
ALWAYS ZIETEN was withdrawn on 9.5.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore and sore left fore suspensory) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LA MERVEILLE (S Dye). Before being allowed to race again, ALWAYS ZIETEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NAVIGATE UNICORN, FIRST KNIGHT and RAINBOW DIAMOND were slow to begin. FINGERS CROSSED began awkwardly. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, FIRST KNIGHT was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of THUNDER MAN. At the 1100 Metres, NAVIGATE UNICORN was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside FIRST KNIGHT. After this, NAVIGATE UNICORN raced greenly and making the Home Turn hung out. On straightening, THUNDER MAN was steadied and shifted to the outside of FINGERS CROSSED to obtain clear running. From shortly after straightening until after the 200 Metres, HAPPY KID was held up and unable to improve when racing behind TABBRIS and inside MASTER DREAMER. Near the 150 Metres, HAPPY KID was shifted to the outside of MASTER DREAMER to go forward. O Doleuze (EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT) said he had been asked to ride the horse quietly as there were a number of front runners engaged and it was anticipated the pace would be solid. Mr B K Ng, trainer of EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT, confirmed the riding instructions and said recently the horse had been ridden further forward as on paper there did not seem to be significant speed in those races. He said tonight he anticipated the race would be run at a good tempo, therefore he felt it was in the best interest of EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT to have the horse ridden quietly. Mr Ng added the manner in which EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT will be ridden in its future races will depend on the anticipated speed. EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT after the race did not show any significant findings. FINGERS CROSSED, SPEEDING MOLLY and MASTER DREAMER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported TABBRIS had lost its right front plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 11 May 2006)
EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer B K Ng this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
