Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, O Doleuze (PERFECT PARTNER) expressed concern over the horse's action during the preliminary. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On jumping, NICONERO and RUSSIAN PEARL were checked when crowded for room between DANACOURT and VANDERLIN which began awkwardly and shifted out. Also on jumping, SEIHALI and JOYFUL WINNER were checked when crowded for room between HIGH INTELLIGENT which shifted in and SUNNY SING which was carried out by BULLISH LUCK which began awkwardly and shifted ground. No action was taken. With the intention of being ridden with cover, PERFECT PARTNER after beginning well was steadied. Near the 1500 Metres, DAVE'S BEST and SUNNY SING were steadied when crowded for room inside HIGH INTELLIGENT which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in away from SILENT WITNESS. E Saint-Martin (ART TRADER) pleaded guilty to a charge of improper riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he rode his mount along and directed it inwards when not clear of JOYFUL WINNER, causing that horse to lose its rightful running. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for E Saint-Martin's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Sunday 11 June 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (8 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 10 May 2006. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, NICONERO, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of JOYFUL WINNER. For a considerable distance after the 800 Metres, NICONERO was continually restrained away from the heels of JOYFUL WINNER and at the 700 Metres bumped the running rail and became unbalanced. Shortly after straightening, DAVE'S BEST was steadied and shifted to the outside of SUNNY SING. After the 400 Metres, VANDERLIN was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DANACOURT which at this time drifted wider. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view an incident had occurred after the 200 Metres which cast doubt on whether RUSSIAN PEARL should be declared 4th placegetter in the race. G Schofield, the rider of VANDERLIN, 5th placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against RUSSIAN PEARL (R Fradd) for alleged interference inside the final 200 Metres. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available evidence formed the opinion that near the 100 Metres BULLISH LUCK which was hanging in caused RUSSIAN PEARL to initially be carried inwards, RUSSIAN PEARL then shifted in further away from BULLISH LUCK and made contact with VANDERLIN. As the Stewards were of the opinion BULLISH LUCK had had a bearing on this incident, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. After the 100 Metres, JOYFUL WINNER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of VANDERLIN. In the run to the line, RUSSIAN PEARL and VANDERLIN raced tight. O Doleuze (PERFECT PARTNER) said the intention had been to ride the horse in about a midfield position. He said because of this after beginning well he immediately steadied PERFECT PARTNER, the horse shortly afterwards dipped and then did not feel comfortable in its action. He said at no stage of the race did PERFECT PARTNER stride out as he thought it should. PERFECT PARTNER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT PARTNER after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PERFECT PARTNER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT PARTNER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SILENT WITNESS, BULLISH LUCK and DANACOURT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported DANACOURT had lost its right front plate and VANDERLIN had lost its left front plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 8 May 2006)
PERFECT PARTNER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. PERFECT PARTNER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff and restricted action. As previously advised, PERFECT PARTNER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that SILENT WITNESS was today found to have a stiff and restricted forelimb action with swelling of both front fetlock joints. Before being allowed to race again, SILENT WITNESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
