Racing Incident Report

SNIP AND TUCK began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. GAUCHO began awkwardly, bounded in the air, shifted out and bumped ABLE STANDARD which also bounded in the air. As a result of this, ABLE STANDARD blundered, became badly unbalanced, shifted in and caused crowding on its inside to GAUCHO and NEW MILESTONE. In this incident, ABLE STANDARD lost a considerable amount of ground. Also GAUCHO lost ground, then travelled wide and without cover for the remainder of the race and in the Straight gave ground. Apprentice K T Yeung (STRAWBERRY KISSES) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 700 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of VICTORY WARRIOR, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In this incident, H K Yim, the rider of VICTORY WARRIOR, lost his right stirrup and PHANTOM THIEF which was following VICTORY WARRIOR was steadied in consequence. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Yeung's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 18 May 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 7 May 2006. In the middle stages, HAPPY GO LAGO hung out. GAUCHO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GAUCHO after the race did not show any significant findings. PHANTOM THIEF and STRAWBERRY KISSES were sent for sampling.
