Racing Incident Report
NATURAL ECHO, which was fractious in its stall, was slow to begin. RAINBOW DIAMOND and JOIN VICTORY were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, THUNDER MAN was steadied when crowded for room between MASTER DREAMER and GO GO VICTORY which shifted in. Apprentice C W Wong (QI'S PET) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of THUNDER MAN, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, Apprentice Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 1 May 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 15 April 2006. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, MASTER DREAMER was steadied to avoid the heels of GO GO VICTORY which shifted in when barely clear. At the 1300 Metres, CHAMP DRAGON became unbalanced when tightened for room inside PURPLE GOLD. Shortly after this, SUPER CHARGE was steadied away from the heels of PURPLE GOLD. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, PURPLE GOLD was crowded for room inside QI'S PET which at this time got its head on the side and hung in. In the Straight, CHAMP DRAGON hung in and proved difficult to ride. When questioned, Mr C S Shum, trainer of QI'S PET, which was racing without blinkers tonight, explained he instructed Apprentice C W Wong, the horse's rider, to give the horse a good warm up prior to entering the stalls and to do his utmost to have the horse which has not been beginning quickly of recent times begin well. He said he further instructed Apprentice Wong to go forward in the early stages, if he was able to lead without making too much use of the horse, he should do so, if not, he should sit in 2nd or 3rd position. Apprentice Wong said in accordance with his instructions he gave QI'S PET a warm up behind the barriers before entering the stalls. He said QI'S PET did not stand well in the gates despite his endeavours to have it do so. He said when the gates opened QI'S PET was slow to begin, he then rode along to go forward in the early stages. He said after passing the winning post on the first occasion he did not believe he would be able to lead without making use of QI'S PET, he therefore endeavoured to sit in 3rd position, however, he was unable to obtain cover and travelled three wide. He said after the 1200 Metres he came back a little to ensure QI'S PET travelled comfortably, however, the horse did hang in making the turn at the 600 Metres and did not respond to his riding afterwards. After viewing the films, Apprentice Wong, in the presence of his allocated trainer, Mr C H Yip, acknowledged he should have allowed QI'S PET more rein on jumping bearing in mind his riding instructions. Apprentice Wong was told his riding at the start and in the early stages had come under notice and he should at all times ensure he rides his mounts in a manner which is not open to query. GO GO VICTORY and SUPER CHARGE were sent for sampling.
