Racing Incident Report
NATURAL ECHO was slow to begin. On jumping, CHALLENGER lost ground when tightened for room inside GOLD DIGGER. JOY TRUMPS began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. Making the first turn, TEMMOKU was steadied when close to the heels of LAZY BUDDIES which shifted in after initially shifting out and making contact with X-SPEED. Also making the first turn, EVER KING raced ungenerously inside the heels of RICH FOR ALL and behind X-SPEED. At the 900 Metres, JOY TRUMPS was hampered and carried wider when SEA TREASURE (F Coetzee) was ridden along and shifted to the outside of CHALLENGER. F Coetzee was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. At the 800 Metres, MADE IN HONGKONG blundered after striking the heels of RICH FOR ALL which at this time shifted out slightly after coming together with X-SPEED. CHALLENGER, which was following MADE IN HONGKONG, was checked to avoid that runner. After this incident, MADE IN HONGKONG shifted to the outside of RICH FOR ALL and bumped SEA TREASURE. On straightening, BEST CHOICE was crowded for room between RICH FOR ALL and X-SPEED which shifted out. W M Lai (MADE IN HONGKONG) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of SEA TREASURE, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. W M Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 13 April 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 1 April 2006. In addition, W M Lai was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. When questioned regarding his riding of SEVENS HEAVEN, Apprentice K T Yeung said when the gates opened, the horse bounded in the air, resulting in he Apprentice Yeung striking his head on an overhead bar in the barriers. He said as a result of this he became unbalanced and SEVENS HEAVEN lost a considerable amount of ground. He said for the remainder of the race he was in discomfort, was somewhat dazed and was experiencing some neck pain. He said because of this he was not able to ride SEVENS HEAVEN as he normally would and the horse continued on in the race at the rear without him being able to apply pressure to it. He said in the Straight he endeavoured to ride SEVENS HEAVEN out as best as he was able and the horse closed the race off strongly. After the race, the Stewards directed Apprentice Yeung to attend the Club's doctor for an examination. Apprentice Yeung said he felt his condition was improving and when he was examined by the doctor, it was decided he was suitable to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. Apprentice Yeung was told as his evidence regarding his head striking an overhead bar in the barriers was verified on the official video, his explanation would be reported. SEVENS HEAVEN and X-SPEED were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SEVENS HEAVEN after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, X-SPEED was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a displacement of the soft palate. Before being allowed to race again, X-SPEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RICH FOR ALL, LAZY BUDDIES and JUST IN TIME were sent for sampling.
