Racing Incident Report
THE KING was withdrawn on 10.3.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (cut left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DON FELIPE. Before being allowed to race again, THE KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SOLAR began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped GOLD STRIKER. On jumping, REGENCY HORSE stumbled, causing F Coetzee, its rider, to become unbalanced. WIN AGAIN was slow to begin. On jumping, SANBENITO was taken back to shift across behind runners and then was ridden along to improve its position. In the early stages, MONEY STRONG hung in. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WIN AGAIN hung out and as a result WINNING SUCCESS was carried wider. At the 300 Metres, GOLD STRIKER was hampered and carried wider after being bumped by PHANTOM THIEF (S K Sit) which shifted out. S K Sit was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. After this, PHANTOM THIEF hung in, near the 100 Metres shifted ground, causing DASHING THUNDER to be steadied. Over the final 50 Metres, GOLD STRIKER and SIR ERNESTO raced tight and made contact on two occasions due mainly to SIR ERNESTO shifting out. In the Straight, KING OF FISH hung in. E Saint-Martin (WINNING SUCCESS) said he had been instructed from the outside barrier to ride the horse from behind. He said WINNING SUCCESS began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, causing him to lose the use of his left stirrup which he was able to regain about 50 Metres after the start. He said after this he took WINNING SUCCESS back and to obtain a position with cover was required to go back to the rear. He said when ridden in this manner WINNING SUCCESS finished the race off only fairly. Mr C S Shum, trainer of WINNING SUCCESS, confirmed the riding instructions issued. He said when drawn more favourably WINNING SUCCESS had been ridden further forward, however, had disappointed in the manner in which it had finished its races off. He said therefore from the outside barrier today in what he anticipated would be a quickly run race he thought it was in the best interest of WINNING SUCCESS to have the horse ridden quietly and see if it was able to close the race off. MONEY STRONG and SOLAR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MONEY STRONG and SOLAR after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MONEY STRONG, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MONEY STRONG will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SIR ERNESTO, REGENCY HORSE and GOLD STRIKER were sent for sampling.
