Racing Incident Report

ARMADA was withdrawn on 25.2.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CHINA SPORTFIELD (S K Sit). Before being allowed to race again, ARMADA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SECRET OF KINGS and STRONG GAIN began awkwardly. On jumping, CROWNED GEM was crowded for room between JIANG JUN and LIFELINE RAPIDE, both of which shifted ground. With the intention of being ridden quietly from a wide barrier, EXPEDITIOUS after beginning well was taken back and shifted across behind runners. Near the 1200 Metres, STRONG GAIN shifted away from the rail and made contact with MEATH which as a result carried SWIFT GERMANIA wider. After the 1000 Metres, STRONG GAIN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CHAMP DRAGON (Apprentice C K Tong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Tong was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. Making the turn near the 800 Metres, CROWNED GEM was checked to avoid the heels of STRONG GAIN which at this time itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHAMP DRAGON and became unbalanced. After the 800 Metres, CHINA SPORTFIELD got its head on the side and hung out. Making the Home Turn and in the Straight, JIANG JUN hung out. Near the 300 Metres, LIFELINE RAPIDE was steadied away from the heels of SECRET OF KINGS which shifted out slightly. At the 200 Metres, LIVERBIRD was steadied when crowded for room between SECRET OF KINGS which shifted in and SWIFT GERMANIA which shifted out. In the Straight, STRONG GAIN hung out. Throughout the race, SUDDEN SPLENDOR travelled wide and without cover. S Dye (LIVERBIRD) explained he had been instructed to have the horse around midfield if possible. He said from a wide barrier LIVERBIRD began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CHAMP DRAGON. He said after this he allowed CHAMP DRAGON and SUDDEN SPLENDOR to go forward of him and it soon became apparent to him if he were to maintain a position outside LIFELINE RAPIDE, he would be racing wide and possibly without cover. He said because of this he took LIVERBIRD across behind LIFELINE RAPIDE and maintained his position until after the 1000 Metres when SECRET OF KINGS shifted out, he therefore steadied his mount and elected to follow that horse. He said as a consequence LIVERBIRD raced further back than intended. CIRCUIT KINGDOM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CIRCUIT KINGDOM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CIRCUIT KINGDOM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JIANG JUN, SECRET OF KINGS and EXPEDITIOUS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SWIFT GERMANIA was bleeding from its mouth.
