Racing Incident Report

EYE WITNESS was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease). Before being allowed to race again, EYE WITNESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KNIGHT TEMPLAR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped FILEBO and despite being ridden along failed to muster speed. In the early stages, FILEBO hung in, proved difficult to settle and after the 1200 Metres was steadied away from the heels of RIGHT FRAAR. At the 1500 Metres, SPECIFIC SORCEROR was carried wider by RIGHT FRAAR which at this time shifted out away from the heels of CAPABILITY. For a considerable distance after the 1000 Metres, POSA, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KNIGHT TEMPLAR. Over the final 800 Metres, SILVER MARK hung out. After the 800 Metres, SPECIFIC SORCEROR was again carried wider by CAPABILITY which at this time shifted away from the fence to the outside of SILVER MARK. After the 400 Metres, CAPABILITY got its head on the side and shifted out. Near the 300 Metres, FILEBO was steadied when crowded for room between GOOD VIEW SUCCESS and SPECIFIC SORCEROR which at this time shifted out away from CAPABILITY which was also shifting ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. At the 100 Metres, SPECIFIC SORCEROR, which was commencing to give ground, was checked when crowded for room between CAPABILITY which shifted out slightly and DANSOLDE which was carried in by KNIGHT TEMPLAR (G Schofield). G Schofield was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After the 50 Metres, DANSOLDE raced tight inside KNIGHT TEMPLAR and because of this was not ridden out as it normally would be. Just prior to the winning post, RIGHT FRAAR was bumped by PACIFIC ALLIANCE which itself shifted ground after being bumped by SILVER MARK which shifted wider on the track. When questioned, C Brown (GOOD VIEW SUCCESS) said he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover. He said he had been told GOOD VIEW SUCCESS would not finish its race off if it did not obtain cover. He said from a wide barrier after beginning well, he allowed runners on his inside to go forward in the hope of obtaining a position in front of midfield with cover. He said because of the slow tempo in the early stages of the race, he raced wide and without cover until after the 800 Metres when he obtained a position behind SPECIFIC SORCEROR. He said however GOOD VIEW SUCCESS failed to close the race off. He did say he had considered after the 1000 Metres going forward to race outside the leader SILVER MARK, however, having in mind his instructions he did not do so. C Soumillon (CAPABILITY) explained it was anticipated the pace of the race would be slow and therefore the intention was if possible to travel in midfield which was further forward than normal. He said CAPABILITY began fairly, he rode along to ensure the horse did not drop back, however, because of the pace of the race in the early stages he found himself racing in second position. The explanation of C Soumillon was accepted. CAPABILITY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, CAPABILITY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination showed CAPABILITY to have a displacement of the soft palate and also to have a substantial amount of mucopus in the trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CAPABILITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DANSOLDE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DANSOLDE after the race did not show any significant findings. RIGHT FRAAR and PACIFIC ALLIANCE were sent for sampling.
