Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, LUCKY CORDELIA and GOLD DIGGER bumped. As a result of this, LUCKY CORDELIA became unbalanced, stumbled badly and dislodged Apprentice H W Lai, its rider. CHERISHED was slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden quietly from the outside barrier, WINNING SMILE shortly after the start was taken across behind runners. C Soumillon (ONLY YOU) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GOOD TRIO, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of MAGIC TEMPLE which as a result was checked. C Soumillon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 12 February 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 5 February 2006. In addition, C Soumillon was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. Making the first turn, despite being ridden along, GOLD DIGGER raced wide and without cover. After the 1300 Metres, GOLD DIGGER went forward to race outside the leader in a three wide position, however, continued to race without cover. After entering the Back Straight, MAGIC TEMPLE proved difficult to settle when racing close to the heels of GOOD TRIO which itself was proving difficult to settle. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, MAGIC TEMPLE bumped the running rail and became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOOD TRIO. At the 700 Metres, MADE IN HONGKONG was steadied when awkwardly placed between TEMMOKU and GOOD TRIO which shifted out slightly. At the 500 Metres, when racing tight inside GOOD TRIO, MAGIC TEMPLE was checked severely to avoid the heels of FLUVIUS CAMILLUS which at this time commenced to give ground. From on straightening until after the 200 Metres, MAGIC TEMPLE had difficulty obtaining clear running. For some distance after straightening, GOOD TRIO was held up and unable to improve when racing behind ONLY YOU. After the 400 Metres, GOOD TRIO was shifted to the inside of ONLY YOU, then approaching and passing the 200 Metres was held up and unable to improve when racing between SOUND OF SILENCE and NOBLE ZOOM. After the 200 Metres, ONLY YOU was steadied to avoid the heels of TEMMOKU which was carried in slightly by WINNING SMILE (D Whyte). D Whyte was reprimanded and told to exercise more care. SOUND OF SILENCE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SOUND OF SILENCE after the race did not show any significant findings. MAGIC TEMPLE, LUCKY MONEY and WINNING SMILE were sent for sampling.
