Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the Parade Ring, an adjustment was made to the right hind plate of MAINLAND MASTER. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. WHIPLASH was a little slow to begin and was then crowded for room between ACTIVE VALOUR and TRIUMPHANT GLORY, both of which shifted ground. CENAMIRA was a little slow to begin and then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between ETERNAL DRAGON and BULLDOZER which was carried out by UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR which began awkwardly, blundered and shifted out abruptly. At the 1100 Metres, HAPPY ALL AROUND was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GANBARIA which itself was awkwardly placed inside the heels of AMBITIOUS LEADER. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, OBVIOUSLY hung out. As a result of this, MAINLAND MASTER and TRIUMPHANT GLORY were held wide. At the 500 Metres, SPEED FIGHTER was steadied and shifted out when crowded for room between WHIPLASH which shifted in slightly and GANBARIA which momentarily shifted out. ACTIVE VALOUR, which was following, was shifted out away from the heels of SPEED FIGHTER and in turn bumped MAINLAND MASTER which then commenced to hang out. At the 400 Metres, HAPPY ALL AROUND, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the inside of AMBITIOUS LEADER, then near the 200 Metres was again steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GANBARIA which was giving ground. On straightening, UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of HAPPY ALL AROUND, then continued to have some difficulty obtaining clear running and over the concluding stages when racing inside the heels of WHIPLASH was awkwardly placed behind ACTIVE VALOUR. Because of this, UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR was not fully tested. At the 250 Metres, SPEED FIGHTER was unable to improve when awkwardly placed between WHIPLASH and OBVIOUSLY. In the Straight, ACTIVE VALOUR and WHIPLASH hung in and proved difficult to ride. D Whyte (GANBARIA) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said GANBARIA did not show the early speed he had anticipated and because of this he had to make use of the horse to maintain its position. He said in his opinion this did not account for the poor performance of the horse. GANBARIA was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of GANBARIA after the race did not show any significant findings. AMBITIOUS LEADER and CHOICE AND CHANCE were sent for sampling.
