Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, MILITARY OPTION bounded in the air and lost ground. EVER KING began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. Shortly after the start, KONRAD THE GREAT was steadied when crowded for room between KING OF WIN and TABBRIS which shifted in. After passing the wining post on the first occasion, BEST POWER, which was close to the heels of EVER KING, was steadied as MILITARY OPTION improved on its inside. On straightening, KING OF WIN, which was commencing to give ground, was bumped by SYDNEY EXPRESS which shifted out. On two occasions shortly after straightening, BEST POWER was bumped by EVER KING which shifted out. At the 150 Metres, EVER KING and BEST POWER came together. At the 50 Metres, SIXTY SECONDS shifted in and brushed KONRAD THE GREAT. After this, KONRAD THE GREAT raced close to the heels of MILITARY OPTION and as such was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. When questioned, D Whyte (EVER KING) explained near the 500 Metres he was following AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT and he allowed RIGHT CHOICE to improve around his outside, then shifted out to follow that horse forward into the race. He said in his opinion to have shifted to the outside of AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT before RIGHT CHOICE improved on his outside would have been detrimental to the chances of his horse as it would have been going forward in a three wide position without cover. AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT and ELFHELM were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. The performance of AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT and KING OF WIN, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT and KING OF WIN will both have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of ELFHELM after the race did not show any significant findings. EVER KING, RUM SHOT and SYDNEY EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
