Racing Incident Report

SILVER MARK was a little slow to begin, then shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of MR GENKI. GREEN IDEAL was slow to begin, then in the early stages proved difficult to settle and after the 1100 Metres became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of LUCKY PACKET. After this, LUCKY PACKET got its head up when proving difficult to settle. At the 100 Metres, CARE FREE PRINCE, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of NATURAL NINE which shifted in slightly. Throughout the race, OPERA MAGIC raced wide and without cover. When questioned, B Prebble (SILVER MARK) explained approaching the 800 Metres despite there being an opportunity for him to shift to the fence, he wished to remain racing in a one off position behind SMART CHAMPION. He said this was because he believed SMART CHAMPION would carry him forward into the race and by remaining away from the rail he would ensure his mount obtain uninterrupted running in the Straight. FIRST KNIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FIRST KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY PACKET and CIRCULAR MACHINE were sent for sampling. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and riding of FIRST KNIGHT and in particular C Munce's riding in the Home Straight. The inquiry was adjourned until a date to be fixed.
