Racing Incident Report
BALL OF FIRE was withdrawn on 12.1.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOLD SANDFIELD. Before being allowed to race again, BALL OF FIRE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAIN ATTRACTION began awkwardly, then stumbled. JOIN VICTORY began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the inside gate of its stall, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when checked after being crowded for room between ESPOIR D'OR which shifted out and LUCKY MONEY which shifted in after making contact with RED WINE HONEY. SEVEN STARS was slow to begin. In the early and middle stages, LUCKY MONEY proved very difficult to settle and at the 900 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MAIN ATTRACTION (Apprentice H W Lai) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Lai was told to exercise greater care. When LUCKY MONEY steadied at the 900 Metres, ESPOIR D'OR which was racing behind and inside that horse became unbalanced and lost ground which in turn caused inconvenience to GOLD SANDFIELD which was following. After this, ESPOIR D'OR continued to lose ground which caused GOLD SANDFIELD to lose further ground and at the 800 Metres GOLD SANDFIELD was then steadied and shifted away from the heels of ESPOIR D'OR. Before the 400 Metres, BRIGHT AND GAY was steadied and shifted to the inside of CARRY THE MAGIC which was commencing to give ground. At the 250 Metres, MAIN ATTRACTION, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room inside MASTER DREAMER which at this time was crowded for room inside LUCKY MONEY which when giving ground got its head on the side and shifted in. Also at the 250 Metres, SUPER IDEAL was shifted to the outside of LUCKY MONEY to obtain clear running. GOLD SANDFIELD, which was following and commencing to close the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SUPER IDEAL. GOLD SANDFIELD then continued to be steadied and shift to the outside of JOIN VICTORY to obtain clear running. After the 200 Metres, DESERT STRIKE was steadied away from the heels of BRIGHT AND GAY which shifted to the outside of WISE LOVER into clear running. S Dye (RED WINE HONEY) explained his mount began well, shortly after the start he looked to his inside to see if he was able to shift across to a position closer to the rail. He said at this time LUCKY MONEY was improving on his inside and as he was not clear of that horse he did not shift in. He said as a result of this RED WINE HONEY then continued to race three wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. When questioned about the poor performance of LUCKY MONEY, G Mossé said in the Parade Ring and during the preliminary the horse was today stirred up. He said in the early stages LUCKY MONEY would not settle for him and as a consequence over-raced and in his opinion because of this the horse was not able to finish the race off. He said in the Straight when giving ground LUCKY MONEY did hang in but in his opinion there was nothing amiss with the horse. C Soumillon (BRILLIANT FLASH), which performed poorly, explained his mount travelled comfortably until after straightening, however, when placed under pressure did not respond to his riding. He said in his opinion BRILLIANT FLASH did not back up from its race last Wednesday night. BRILLIANT FLASH, ESPOIR D'OR and CARRY THE MAGIC were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BRILLIANT FLASH after the race did not show any significant findings. B Prebble (CARRY THE MAGIC) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse which was having its first race start in blinkers today. He said the horse's work leading into today's race when wearing blinkers had in his opinion been good. He said CARRY THE MAGIC bounded in the air at the start and lost ground and as a consequence settled further back than he had intended, however, as the race was being run at a solid tempo, this was not of concern. He said CARRY THE MAGIC travelled satisfactorily until the 800 Metres, however, shortly afterwards he was of the opinion the horse would not figure in the finish and in the Straight did fail to respond to his vigorous riding. After the race, CARRY THE MAGIC was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CARRY THE MAGIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ESPOIR D'OR, which tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had multiple abrasions to the left hind cannon and fetlock. The performance of ESPOIR D'OR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ESPOIR D'OR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY MONEY, BRIGHT AND GAY and WISE LOVER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted BRIGHT AND GAY had lost its left front plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 16 January 2006)
CARRY THE MAGIC, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. CARRY THE MAGIC was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D J Hall this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff restricted hind limb action and significant back pain. As previously advised, CARRY THE MAGIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
