Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to DELIGHTFUL WIN was replaced. NOBLE SILENCE was slow to begin, then began awkwardly. DELIGHTFUL WIN began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost a considerable amount of ground. CLASSA FOR EVER began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. VERY FIT was slow to begin. SOPRANO began awkwardly. In the early stages, CLASSA FOR EVER proved difficult to settle. Near the 1400 Metres, BOOMING CITY, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of SHANGHAI LAD. In the middle stages, GOLDEN SUN raced wide and without cover. After the 400 Metres, THE KING, which had been unable to improve between GREENESSY and CLASSA FOR EVER, was shifted towards the outside of GREENESSY and as a result caused some interference to VERY FIT. Also after the 400 Metres, FUJI SUNRISE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of VERY FIT. At the 200 Metres, VERY FIT was severely checked when crowded for room between SHANGHAI LAD (D Beadman) and FUJI SUNRISE (S Dye), both of which shifted ground. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed it was not appropriate to take action against either D Beadman or S Dye, however, both were advised to exercise care. Throughout the race, GREENESSY raced wide and without cover. F Coetzee (VERY FIT) explained at no stage of the race did his horse travel comfortably and he was unable to offer an explanation for the horse's performance. He said despite receiving interference at the 200 Metres, in the circumstances of the horse's performance, this was of little significance. SHANGHAI LAD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SHANGHAI LAD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. CLEAN SWEEP, RICE FIELD and BOOMING CITY were sent for sampling.
