Racing Incident Report
STAY YOUNG bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. GOOD PROFIT was slow to begin and bumped with HAPPEE OWNER. Shortly after the start, HAPPEE OWNER and LIGHTNING STAR bumped. On straightening, HAIL THE STORM raced close to the heels of LIGHTNING STAR. S Dye (RED POWER) said he had intended to ride the horse in 4th or 5th position. He said RED POWER began well, however, shortly after the start DAVE'S BEST and FIVE GRAINS held their position to his inside which prevented him from shifting in. He said passing the 1400 Metres he was following LIGHTNING STAR which remained racing away from the rail. He said after the 1200 Metres HAIL THE STORM improved around his outside and shifted across to race outside LIGHTNING STAR and at this time RED POWER got its head up on several occasions. He said as a consequence he was slightly further back than he had hoped. Y T Cheng (DAVE'S BEST) explained in the Straight the horse carried its head on the side and indicated to him that it would shift in if allowed the opportunity. He said because of this he hit DAVE'S BEST once with the whip near the 300 Metres, then re-gathered his mount before again using the whip at the 200 Metres. He said after this he continued to ride DAVE'S BEST out hands and heels in the run to the line. Y T Cheng was told he was to ensure he rode his mounts out in a manner which left no room for query. HAIL THE STORM and LIGHTNING STAR were sent for sampling.
