Racing Incident Report
While parading behind the barrier, JUSTINIAN was temporarily entangled in a tape which was used to block the exit for the barriers from the track. JUSTINIAN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CAPTAIN BUNNY began awkwardly and blundered. SPARKLE was a little slow to begin and then was steadied when crowded for room between DESERT STRIKE and LASER GLORY which shifted in. BUDDIES POWER was slow to begin and then was ridden along to improve its position, however, was obliged to race wide and without cover throughout. Making the first turn, RIGHT CHOICE was steadied when crowded for room between JUSTINIAN and COULDN'T CARE LESS which shifted to a position behind LASER GLORY with cover. Also making the first turn, LASER GLORY was steadied to avoid the heels of SHINING DRAGON (Apprentice C W Wong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care. After the 1200 Metres, GOOD VIEW SUCCESS was steadied away from the heels of SHINING DRAGON. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, A BETTER DRAGON, which was proving a little difficult to settle, got its head up. Prior to straightening, LASER GLORY, which was commencing to give ground, was checked when crowded for room between GOOD VIEW SUCCESS and BUDDIES POWER which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in momentarily. In the Straight, BUDDIES POWER continued to hang in. The performance of CAPTAIN BUNNY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, CAPTAIN BUNNY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. E Saint-Martin (FORTUNE WARRIOR) explained he had been instructed to ensure the horse travelled on the fence. He said from the outside barrier he took FORTUNE WARRIOR across behind runners and travelled on the rail in a rearward position. He said approaching the 600 Metres DESERT STRIKE which was racing in front of him one off the fence commenced to improve its position, however, because of the instructions he had been issued he remained on the fence racing behind SPARKLE until after straightening. He said after straightening clear running through to the end of the race was available to him on the inside and FORTUNE WARRIOR closed the race off strongly. DESERT STRIKE and GOOD VIEW SUCCESS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SHINING DRAGON had sustained multiple lacerations to the left hind leg and RIGHT CHOICE had sustained a laceration to the left front leg.
