Racing Incident Report
BROWN BEAUTY was slow to begin. COTTON BALL bounded in the air on jumping. NOBLE GLORY began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, MILLION SUCCESS was checked when crowded for room by the riderless RISING WIN. After this, RISING WIN shifted out wider and caused inconvenience to STEP FORWARD, COTTON BALL and ACCELERATION. In the middle stages, DANSKE VERY MUCH proved difficult to settle. For some distance after the 400 Metres, CHERISHED raced tight inside MILLION SUCCESS as CHERISHED was endeavouring to shift out and obtain clear running. Then on straightening, MILLION SUCCESS was carried wider by CHERISHED which at this time shifted out. Inside the final 200 Metres, MILLION SUCCESS got its head on the side, hung in and proved difficult to ride and then prior to the winning post was bumped by RISING WIN. In the Straight, KING OF SPADES and BROWN BEAUTY hung in. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred while the Stewards considered whether RISING WIN may have had an unfair start. Evidence was taken from G Schofield, rider of RISING WIN, Mr T W Leung, trainer of the horse, and Mr T McGovern, the Starter for this race. The Stewards after viewing all the available films and considering the evidence submitted by all parties found that just prior to the gates opening RISING WIN lunged forward, then as the start was effected G Schofield reached out with his right hand and took hold of the adjoining partition and RISING WIN began awkwardly. As a consequence of this, G Schofield was dislodged. The Stewards believed G Schofield was properly mounted at the time the start was effected and it was considered this was not an appropriate occasion on which they should exercise their powers under Rule 12(19), therefore weighed-in was declared on the Judge's placings. BROWN BEAUTY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BROWN BEAUTY after the race did not show any significant findings. ACCELERATION, MASTERY and WATCHMAN were sent for sampling.
