Racing Incident Report
Mr K W Lui, trainer of CLANG'S PRIDE, was fined $2,000 for negligently failing to declare at the time of declaration that O Chavez, rider of the horse, would be 2 lbs overweight. PAY-DAY was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, WIN DANCER was bumped by MILLION SUCCESS which shifted in after being bumped by ACE KING. In the early stages, MILLION SUCCESS proved very difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. Also in the early stages, CLANG'S PRIDE proved very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed behind BAYVIEW LAD. Near the 1200 Metres, NOBLE ZOOM became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of WIN DANCER (K S Yu) which shifted in after initially being carried in slightly by MILLION SUCCESS. K S Yu was advised to exercise more care. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, PAY-DAY was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE ZOOM which itself was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside MILLION SUCCESS. O Chavez (CLANG'S PRIDE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of ABORIGINAL, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. O Chavez was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 25 September 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 14 September 2005. In addition, O Chavez was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. After the 100 Metres, CLANG'S PRIDE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BAYVIEW LAD. For the major part of the race, PLEASANT JOURNEY travelled in a forward position, however, was wide and without cover and proved difficult to settle. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (ABORIGINAL) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in a position behind the leaders with cover if possible. He said ABORIGINAL had in the past shown itself to be a difficult horse in the barriers. He said today after being boxed ABORIGINAL was fractious and turned its head to the left despite the assistance he was receiving from an attendant. He said when the gates opened ABORIGINAL was still standing awkwardly with its head turned to the left and as a consequence was slow to begin. He said therefore he was further back than he had hoped. He said after this he allowed ABORIGINAL to commence to make ground and was endeavouring to improve between CLANG'S PRIDE and NOBLE ZOOM near the 1200 Metres, however, when NOBLE ZOOM was interfered with at this time it lost ground, causing ABORIGINAL to strike the heels of NOBLE ZOOM and blunder. He said after this he continued to race in a rearward position and near the 700 Metres again checked when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CLANG'S PRIDE and tight inside PAY-DAY. He said once balanced ABORIGINAL again travelled kindly and in the Straight he commenced to make ground, however, after the 300 Metres was again interfered with which caused him to lose his momentum. He said when in the clear ABORIGINAL closed the race off strongly. ABORIGINAL, FIRST KNIGHT and MILLION SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
