Racing Incident Report
CARE FREE PRINCE was slow to begin. FORTUNE WARRIOR, from a gate towards the outside, was slow to begin and was then steadied and shifted across behind runners. Shortly after the start, DEVON FLAIR was steadied when crowded for room between OLIVE OR TWIST and DOLPHIN STAR which shifted out. For some distance after this, DEVON FLAIR proved difficult to settle. Prior to straightening, DOLPHIN STAR was crowded for room inside GLOBE RIVER which at this time was shifted to the inside of HAPPY TOGETHER which was commencing to give ground. No action was taken. At the 250 Metres, DEVON FLAIR and HAPPY TOGETHER bumped. In the Straight, DEVON FLAIR hung in, proved difficult to ride and because of this was not properly tested. When questioned, Apprentice K W Tsui (CARE FREE PRINCE), which performed poorly, said the horse did not appreciate racing on tonight's track surface which despite being rated good was cutting up as a result of rain which had fallen prior to this race. NATIVE LANGUAGE and CARE FREE PRINCE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NATIVE LANGUAGE and CARE FREE PRINCE after the race did not show any significant findings. TRIUMPH and FREEBIRD were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted HAPPY TOGETHER had lost its left hind plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 30 June 2005)
NATIVE LANGUAGE was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. NATIVE LANGUAGE was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C Fownes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be mildly lame in the right foreleg with signs of inflammation in the fetlock joint. Before being allowed to race again, NATIVE LANGUAGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
