Racing Incident Report
SAINT THOMAS began awkwardly, then when being ridden along was slow to muster speed in the early stages and became unbalanced. After this, SAINT THOMAS was shifted to the outside of the field and raced wide and without cover. In the middle stages, INDUSTRIAL GLORY became unbalanced and dipped on several occasions. At the 300 Metres, SHARKI, which was commencing to give ground, became unbalanced and dipped. After this, SHARKI continued to be unbalanced and because of this was not ridden out as it normally would be. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered whether BETTER BOY had had an unfair start. Evidence was taken from F Coetzee, the rider of BETTER BOY, and the official videos were viewed. It was established that BETTER BOY, which had been difficult to load, then sat back as the start was effected, lifted its front legs off the ground and lost a considerable amount of ground. As such, the Stewards believed BETTER BOY had not had an unfair start and declared weighed-in on the placings as semaphored by the Judge. Before being allowed to race again, BETTER BOY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. SHARKI and INDUSTRIAL GLORY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SHARKI and INDUSTRIAL GLORY after the race did not show any significant findings. TCHAIKOVSKY and WHATABOB were sent for sampling.
