Racing Incident Report

Mr P F Yiu, trainer of DANEMAN HILL, was fined $3,000 for negligently failing to lodge by the required time a gear change to have the horse race in a pacifier as directed following its official barrier trial on 19 April 2005. After arriving at the Start, SOUND OF SILENCE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. When the gates opened, GRASS HOPPER bounded in the air, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground, then shortly afterwards was checked to avoid the heels of EVEREST which itself was checked to avoid the heels of DANEMAN HILL which was carried in abruptly by GOLDEN FARM which shifted ground on jumping despite the efforts of its rider. As a consequence, GRASS HOPPER and EVEREST got well back. Also, ONE SHOT was hampered when bumped by EVEREST. ROMANTIC WINNER was slow to begin, in the middle stages hung out, then after the 200 Metres got its head on the side and shifted in. After the 600 Metres, KOWLOON FIT became unbalanced, shifted away from the rail and lost ground. Before the 200 Metres, FOURSQUARE was steadied and shifted towards the outside of CHAMP DE UNION. Near the 50 Metres, GOLDEN FARM, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of SOUND OF SILENCE which got its head on the side and shifted in away from CHAMP DE UNION when improving into a narrow run inside that horse. GRASS HOPPER, which was closing the race off strongly and following GOLDEN FARM, was steadied and as a consequence was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. In the Straight, KOWLOON FIT hung in and proved difficult to ride. GRASS HOPPER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GRASS HOPPER after the race did not show any significant findings. DANEMAN HILL, ROMANTIC WINNER and FOURSQUARE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GOLDEN FARM had lost its left front plate.
