Racing Incident Report
As the gates opened, PACIFIC ALLIANCE sat back and consequently was slow to begin. TEMMOKU bounded in the air at the start. After beginning awkwardly and bumping the inside gate of its stall, TABBRIS was then bumped by CZAR OF PRUSSIA which on jumping shifted out abruptly. Following the race, C Williams, the rider of TABBRIS, reported when his mount bumped the inside of its barrier, there was heavy contact of his right knee with the stall, as a consequence of which he sustained a laceration to the knee. Just prior to the winning post on the first occasion, ARMONDO was steadied away from the heels of ADD THE FUN. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, NIGHT NINJA got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ADD THE FUN. In the Back Straight, MILITARY OPTION was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of CZAR OF PRUSSIA. On straightening, ARMONDO was unable to maintain its position between ADD THE FUN and MILITARY OPTION. In the early part of the Straight, PEAK POWER was unable to improve initially behind ARMONDO and then CZAR OF PRUSSIA. After the 200 Metres, TEMMOKU, which was shifting in, was steadied away from the heels of ARMONDO. Near the 100 Metres, FLYING SUCCESS was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between MILITARY OPTION and NIGHT NINJA which shifted out. When questioned regarding the poor performance of TABBRIS, Mr A Lee, trainer of the horse, said the intention had been to lead if possible as is usual. He said because of the horse not beginning cleanly it was then unable to obtain the lead and despite travelling in a forward position trailing the leaders he was of the opinion TABBRIS is not suited when racing with cover. He said even considering this he acknowledged the performance of TABBRIS was a poor one and he was unable to offer any explanation. He said TABBRIS' work leading into tonight's race had been the same as usual, however, he did point out TABBRIS appears to perform best in its runs immediately following a let-up. He added it is now his intention to freshen up TABBRIS before it next races. TABBRIS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, TABBRIS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. The performance of TABBRIS was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, TABBRIS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MILITARY OPTION, CZAR OF PRUSSIA and PEAK POWER were sent for sampling.
