Racing Incident Report
A-TACK began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground at the start. Shortly after the start, HORACE'S HORSE was checked and GREAT IDEA crowded for room between UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR which shifted in and SPEEDY EXPRESS which was carried out by SOUTH CHINA NINETY. In the circumstances, no action was taken. From the outside gate, in the early stages, NOBLE VICTORY was steadied and taken across behind runners to a position closer to the rail. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, GRASS HOPPER became unbalanced when momentarily placed inside A-TACK. Also making the turn at the 700 Metres, NOBLE VICTORY hung out, then near the 500 Metres hung in. BULLISH KID, which was racing wide and without cover, hung out making the turn at the 700 Metres. In the early part of the Straight, when giving ground, SPEEDY EXPRESS hung in. F Coetzee (BULLISH KID) reported over about the last 200 Metres his right hand became entangled in the rein and because of this he was disadvantaged in riding his mount out. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DOUCAI, E Saint-Martin explained in his opinion today's race had more speed in it than the race the horse won at its most recent start. He said because DOUCAI had gone up six points in the rating, he felt it would be in the horse's best interests to allow it today to gradually improve into a forward position rather than be hard ridden to obtain that position. He said he therefore allowed DOUCAI to travel forward in the early stages and after the 700 Metres shifted across to race outside SOUTH CHINA NINETY. He said after this DOUCAI did not travel as he hoped it would and in his opinion raced somewhat "flat" today. DOUCAI and SPEEDY EXPRESS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DOUCAI and SPEEDY EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SPEEDY EXPRESS, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SPEEDY EXPRESS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR, GREAT IDEA and SUPREMACY were sent for sampling.
