Racing Incident Report
BEST CHOICE and GUNG HO were slow to begin. ASIA RISING began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was bumped by GOLDEN STRIDE which shifted out. HAPPY MASTER was slow to begin and then was bumped by BUDDIES SPIRIT which shifted out. CARE FREE PRINCE was slow to begin, then for the major part of the race hung in. NATURAL MODEL raced awkwardly with its head up in the early stages and near the 1000 Metres brushed the running rail. Prior to the 200 Metres, HAPPY MASTER was shifted to the outside of ABORIGINAL which was giving ground. At the 200 Metres, GUNG HO, which was having some difficulty obtaining clear running, was shifted to the outside of BUDDIES SPIRIT. After the 200 Metres, CARE FREE PRINCE was checked when crowded for room inside ABORIGINAL (Apprentice C K Tong) which shifted in whilst being ridden long after initially being brushed by HAPPY MASTER. In the circumstances, no action was taken, however, Apprentice Tong was advised to exercise care. Also after the 200 Metres, SOUTHERN LIGHT, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of ASIA RISING (D Whyte) which shifted to the outside of NATURAL MODEL to continue going forward. D Whyte was reprimanded and told to exercise care. Near the 100 Metres, ASIA RISING was struck over the head by the whip of A Delpech (NATURAL MODEL). Near the 50 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT was checked when crowded for room between BOLD FIGHTER and GUNG HO, both of which shifted ground. No action was taken. Over the concluding stages, HAPPY MASTER shifted out abruptly and was difficult to ride. Throughout the race, SOUTHERN LIGHT raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. SOUTHERN LIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SOUTHERN LIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. HAPPY MASTER and GUNG HO were sent for sampling.
