Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, JOY TRUMPS bounded in the air, lost ground and then was taken across behind runners. GOLDEN MAPLE and CUPID were slow to begin. SHINING GEM began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ESPRIT D'OR, which was racing awkwardly, was steadied when tight inside the heels of GOLDEN MAPLE. Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, WE'RE BUDDIES was momentarily steadied away from the heels of COTTON BALL. Near the 1300 Metres, when X-SPEED steadied the pace noticeably, MADE IN HONGKONG which raced close to that horse's heels was steadied and shifted out, causing WE'RE BUDDIES and LA MERVEILLE to be carried wider. Approaching and making the turn at the 700 Metres, JOY TRUMPS and SHOW BRAVELY hung in. After the 600 Metres, SHINING GEM blundered when close to the heels of X-SPEED. On straightening, WE'RE BUDDIES became unbalanced when crowded for room between LA MERVEILLE and X-SPEED which at this time shifted away from the fence. Near the 250 Metres, C Soumillon (SMART CHIEF) dropped his whip and then near the 200 Metres momentarily lost the use of his left rein. After the 200 Metres, O Doleuze (LA MERVEILLE) dropped his whip. Throughout the race, LA MERVEILLE raced wide and without cover. GOLDEN MAPLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN MAPLE after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER DANA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SUPER DANA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a continuous displacement of the soft palate. COTTON BALL and X-SPEED were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MADE IN HONGKONG had lost its left front plate.
