Racing Incident Report
Prior to leaving the Parade Ring, NOBLE CRUSADER had its left front plate re-set. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. BRILLIANT FLASH was slow to begin. On jumping, CLASSA WIN shifted in and was steadied away from the hindquarters of NOBLE CRUSADER. In the early stages, DOUBLE DIP proved very difficult to settle. Near the 900 Metres, SENSIBLE WAY became unbalanced when crowded for room inside FREEBIRD (W M Lai) which after racing tight outside SENSIBLE WAY shifted in. DOUBLE DIP, which was following, was checked and shifted out away from SENSIBLE WAY. W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told tight riding such as this would not be condoned. After the 800 Metres, WISHMASTER became unbalanced when awkwardly placed on the heels of THE KING. In the middle stages, DOUBLE HAPPINESS hung out and near the 600 Metres was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WEALTHY. From shortly after the 400 Metres until near the 200 Metres, WISHMASTER was held up and unable to obtain clear running. To obtain clear running, WISHMASTER was shifted to the outside of WEALTHY. Over the concluding stages, FREEBIRD was awkwardly placed behind SOLAR EMPIRE which was giving ground. Throughout the race, AMAZING ONE raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. For the major part of the race, GIANFANTI travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. B Prebble (DOUBLE HAPPINESS) said making the Home Turn he was aware he had WEALTHY to his outside and at this time he was following SENSIBLE WAY. He said he was of the opinion SENSIBLE WAY would shift away from the fence and provide him with clear running, he therefore positioned himself to take a run on the inside of that horse, however, when SENSIBLE WAY did not shift, he was held up and unable to improve for some distance. He said after obtaining clear running near the 300 Metres DOUBLE HAPPINESS then only closed the race off fairly. B Prebble was told he should at all times do his utmost to ensure mounts ridden by him obtain uninterrupted running where circumstances permit. F Coetzee (ZERO IN) said his instructions had been to go forward and if the pace was not quick to lead. He said these instructions are consistent with the manner in which the horse is usually ridden. He said ZERO IN did not begin well and then did not muster speed in the early stages. He said when other runners went forward from the start, he made a decision it would be in the best interests of ZERO IN not to chase the horse and allow it to be properly balanced so that it would close the race off. He said as a consequence ZERO IN got further back than was intended, however, in the Straight did close the race off nicely. Mr A S Cruz, trainer of ZERO IN, confirmed the instructions issued to F Coetzee. AMAZING ONE and GIANFANTI were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING ONE and GIANFANTI after the race did not show any significant findings. WEALTHY and NOBLE CRUSADER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 10 January 2005)
GIANFANTI, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. GIANFANTI was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer K W Lui yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, GIANFANTI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
