Racing Incident Report

FANTASTICO began awkwardly. PHOENIX FORTUNE was slow to begin. Near the 400 Metres, TANAHMERAH was inconvenienced and steadied to avoid the heels of THUNDER STORM which shifted out. Prior to straightening, KING OF THE TURF became unbalanced and was checked when crowded for room inside PHOENIX FORTUNE (S Dye) which got its head on the side and shifted in momentarily. S Dye was advised to exercise more care. W Woods (WINNING CAT), which was having its first start at Happy Valley, explained near the 1000 Metres, 800 Metres and again near the 600 Metres the horse bounded in the air and became badly unbalanced. He said he was unable to offer any explanation for the behaviour of WINNING CAT and said it had never previously shown any indication of such behaviour. WINNING CAT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WINNING CAT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING CAT will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When WINNING CAT bounded in the air near the 600 Metres, the horse lost ground and as a result TANAHMERAH which was following was checked severely and shifted out to avoid the heels of that horse. SUPER FANTASY and MILITARY OPTION were sent for sampling.
