Racing Incident Report
BEST GIFT began awkwardly, then was bumped by SOUTHERN LIGHT which shifted out. As a consequence, BEST GIFT lost ground. TAKING THE LEAD bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. ENGINEERING WONDER was slow to begin. STAR PRODIGY began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped GRANDWAY SHUTTLE. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, TAKING THE LEAD was crowded for room inside PROGRESSING TIMES. After the 1000 Metres, SOUTHERN LIGHT was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GIANFANTI. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SOUTHERN LIGHT got its head on the side and hung in. Also making the turn at the 600 Metres, TAKING THE LEAD became unbalanced and bumped the running rail. At the 500 Metres, EVERY TIME was bumped by ENGINEERING WONDER which shifted towards the outside of the heels of PROGRESSING TIMES. After this, EVERY TIME and ENGINEERING WONDER raced tight making the Home Turn with EVERY TIME being bumped by ENGINEERING WONDER which at this time was endeavouring to shift to the outside of SOUTHERN LIGHT. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by G Mossé, the rider of ENGINEERING WONDER, which finished 3rd, against EVERY TIME (G Schofield) being declared the winner for alleged interference inside the final 300 Metres. The Stewards considered shortly after the 300 Metres ENGINEERING WONDER which had not established rightful running was checked when crowded for room between EVERY TIME which shifted in slightly and SOUTHERN LIGHT which shifted out away from PROGRESSING TIMES after initially being carried wider by that horse. The Stewards therefore found this incident was not fully attributable to EVERY TIME. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. Throughout the race, BRAVE KNIGHT from the outside barrier raced wide and without cover. EVERY TIME and TAKING THE LEAD were sent for sampling.
