Racing Incident Report
MOMENTUM began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground, then for the major part of the race travelled wide and without cover, on a number of occasions got its head up and in the middle stages was allowed to stride forward. OUT OF MY WAY and CLASSA WIN were slow to begin. Making the turn after the winning post the first time, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE got its head on the side, hung out and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PARADIS. After the 600 Metres, FIGHTING MASCOT was steadied away from the heels of TOY QUEST, shifted out and this caused inconvenience to CLASSA WIN. Near the 200 Metres, TOY QUEST was disappointed for running on the outside of WHATABOB, was then steadied and shifted to the inside of that horse to obtain clear running. Near the 150 Metres, the whip of D Whyte (SUCCESSIVE GAINS) was knocked from his hand by the whip of O Doleuze (PARADIS). Also near the 150 Metres, MIRACLES, which had been shifted towards the outside of CALIFORNIA BISHOP in an attempt to find clear running, was steadied and shifted in as a result of CALIFORNIA BISHOP shifting out. After the 100 Metres, WHATABOB, which was commencing to give ground, was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed between TOY QUEST and PARADIS. FIGHTING MASCOT, which was following, was shifted out to avoid the heels of WHATABOB. M Rodd (WHATABOB) explained he went forward as instructed and after passing the winning post on the first occasion commenced to shift across to race outside CALIFORNIA BISHOP in the lead, however, as he did this he received a call from A Delpech, the rider of PROGRESSING TIMES, which was racing to his inside to indicate he was not sufficiently clear. He said he therefore turned WHATABOB's head out to prevent causing crowding to his inside and when he did this WHATABOB then got its head on the side and commenced to hang out. He said because of this it took him some time to work forward and shift across to race outside CALIFORNIA BISHOP in the lead. Apprentice M W Leung (OUT OF MY WAY) said he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly, find the rail and make his run towards the inner in the Home Straight. He said when the horse was ridden forward last time, it had failed to finish the race off. He said the horse began only fairly, he then allowed it to drop towards the rail at the rear. He said OUT OF MY WAY travelled comfortably throughout the run, but in the Home Straight when placed under pressure kept on only one paced. He concluded by saying the manner in which OUT OF MY WAY raced indicated it would be better suited by distance further than the 1650 Metres of tonight's race. The explanation of Apprentice Leung was reported. SUCCESSIVE GAINS and CALIFORNIA BISHOP were sent for sampling.
