Racing Incident Report
WATCHMAN and LUCKY BIRD were slow to begin. POWERFUL, which was to be ridden in a rearward position tonight, began awkwardly. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, FORTUNE LAD when being restrained was steadied away from the heels of GIDDY KIPPER. Shortly after this, FORTUNE LAD was again steadied to avoid the heels of SWEETIE which shifted in when barely clear. Near the 600 Metres, FORTUNE LAD was steadied away from the heels of SWEETIE. When commencing to give ground near the 600 Metres and being placed under pressure, ASIA STAR drifted wider on the track. Shortly after straightening, SWEETIE was steadied and shifted to the outside of ASIA STAR to obtain clear running. At the 200 Metres, FLYING DRAGON, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of WATCHMAN which shifted out when barely clear after being unable to obtain a clear run between FIRST KNIGHT and GIDDY KIPPER. Shortly after this, WATCHMAN shifted further and bumped ASIA STAR which was also giving ground. In the Straight, SWEETIE hung out. For the major part of the race, HAPPY FORTUNE raced wide and without cover. FORTUNE LAD, CHARIOT OF WEI HAI and SWEETIE were sent for sampling. The Veterinary Officer reported FLYING DRAGON was making an abnormal breathing noise following the race.
