Racing Incident Report
When parading behind the barriers, GROOM RAIDER made contact with the running rail. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said it was suitable to race. ABLE CHOICE began awkwardly and knuckled. Near the 1100 Metres, GREEN CHANNEL was bumped by ABLE CHOICE which at this time was carried out by DANRIVA. At the 800 Metres, DANRIVA was checked when crowded for room inside SIROCCO (Apprentice H W Lai) which when racing tight inside STARDANE got its head on the side and shifted in away from that horse. ABLE CHOICE, which was following, was checked in consequence. Apprentice H W Lai was advised to exercise more care. Prior to straightening and again shortly after straightening, GROOM RAIDER, which was held up and unable to obtain clear running, endeavoured to shift to the outside of PAOBRIDGE and in doing so caused inconvenience to GREAT DELIGHT. However, GROOM RAIDER was unable to obtain clear running at this time and remained held up for some distance. In the early part of the Straight, FANTASY had some difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 400 Metres, LIGHTNING STAR was steadied and shifted to the inside of FANTASY in an attempt to find clear running. At the 300 Metres, SIROCCO was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between FANTASY and FIREWHEEL. Over the concluding stages, NILOMETER got its head on the side and hung in. Apprentice H W Lai, 3rd placegetter, was told he must ensure wherever circumstances permit ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race. M Rodd (DANRIVA) reported that near the 300 Metres he became concerned with the action of his mount and therefore he did not ride it out to the end of the race. DANRIVA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A subsequent veterinary inspection of DANRIVA failed to reveal any abnormalities. The performance of DANRIVA was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DANRIVA will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GREEN CHANNEL was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, GREEN CHANNEL, which tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. As this was the second episode of an irregular heart rhythm suffered by GREEN CHANNEL, Mr D A Hayes, the trainer of the horse, was advised it will now in accordance with Stewards' Instruction 1 be compulsorily retired. GREAT DELIGHT and PAOBRIDGE were sent for sampling.
