Racing Incident Report
MANIFEST, which was fractious in the gates, began very awkwardly, losing considerable ground and causing C Williams, its rider, to become unbalanced. KIMBO KID was slow into stride. When the gates opened, GRASS HOPPER bounded in the air and shortly afterwards was bumped by GRANDWAY SHUTTLE which shifted out after making contact with MAJOR BEE. On jumping, FANTASTICO and LUCKY GALLOPER bumped. Shortly after the start, FANTASTICO was crowded for room between HELENE ELEGANCE and LUCKY GALLOPER which got its head on the side and shifted in away from ALL FIT. Near the 900 Metres, G Mossé's right foot slipped from the stirrup which he regained shortly afterwards. Just prior to straightening, HELENE ELEGANCE was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of GRANDWAY SHUTTLE. M Rodd (FANTASTICO) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position, however, as a result of receiving interference at the start he elected to steady his mount and shift across to the rail at the tail of the field. He said for him to have ridden along in the early stages would have obliged him to race wide throughout. He added near the 700 Metres he again had to steady his mount when awkwardly placed on the heels of GRASS HOPPER, then rounding the Home Turn he considered shifting to the outside to ensure the horse had clear running, however, at this time HELENE ELEGANCE which was racing in front of him commenced to shift out and in his opinion he would have been carried unnecessarily wider around the Home Turn had he shifted out. He said in the Straight he did not ever obtain clear running and therefore was not able to properly test FANTASTICO. M Rodd was told his explanation would be recorded and he was to do his utmost to obtain clear running where possible. FANTASTICO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of FANTASTICO after the race did not show any significant findings. ARABIAN WAGER and DOWN FOR THE COUNT were sent for sampling.
