Racing Incident Report
On jumping, CHERISHED was steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail but at the rear. CHINOOK was a little slow to begin and then shortly afterwards became unbalanced when bumped by BROWN BEAUTY which shifted in after making contact with EXULTATION. On jumping, DANEFACTOR and JUSTINIAN bumped. Near the 1500 Metres, DANEFACTOR was steadied away from the heels of ALWAYS ZIETEN (Apprentice H W Lai) which steadied after crossing to the fence in the lead. Apprentice Lai was advised against the practice of steadying the pace too abruptly after reaching the lead. For some distance after the 400 Metres, JUSTINIAN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CAPABEL which commenced to give ground. Shortly after straightening, EXULTATION was checked severely when disappointed for running between SPECIFIC SORCEROR and WAVY PEAK which shifted out slightly away from CAPABEL which continued to give ground. As the Stewards were satisfied EXULTATION at no stage had established rightful running between SPECIFIC SORCEROR and WAVY PEAK, no action was taken. After the 200 Metres, JUSTINIAN and EVEREST were carried wider by BROWN BEAUTY. When questioned, R Fradd (BROWN BEAUTY) said approaching the 200 Metres whilst there was a run available directly in front of him between DANEFACTOR and CHINOOK, he was of the opinion CHINOOK was beginning to drift inwards, he therefore shifted BROWN BEAUTY which in the past had shown a reluctance to race tight amongst other horses to the outside of CHINOOK to ensure he obtained unimpeded running over the concluding stages. R Fradd was told his explanation would be reported. C Williams (EVEREST) said the intention with the blinkers removed from the horse tonight and with its gate towards the outside was to be ridden in midfield. He said accordingly after EVEREST began well, he immediately restrained his mount in an endeavour to shift in and obtain a position with cover, however, when WINWIN COMBO which was on his inside also came back, he elected to continue coming back on EVEREST, shift in and obtain a position with cover as in his opinion had he endeavoured to be in midfield, he would have been forced to race wide. He said as a consequence of this EVEREST raced further back than was anticipated. ALWAYS ZIETEN and CHINOOK were sent for sampling.
