Racing Incident Report

LUCKY VICTORIES was slow to begin. On jumping, TSUNAMI and THE ONLY ONE bumped. STAR OF SHANTOU blundered on jumping, approaching the first turn got its head on the side and commenced to hang out, making the turn at the 800 Metres shifted out while continuing to hang, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of SHINING GEM, clipped the heels of that horse and blundered. After this, STAR OF SHANTOU continued to hang out making the turn, then in the Straight when being ridden out was inclined to lay in. Before being allowed to race again, STAR OF SHANTOU will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. For a considerable distance after the 1200 Metres, GLOBE RIVER and WINNING PARADE raced tight inside the heels of HAPPY KID which was proving difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. Making the Home Turn, SHINING GEM was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DRAGON STRIDE. After the 400 Metres, TSUNAMI, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of GLOBE RIVER to go forward. R Fradd (ISLAND SPIRIT) said he had been instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable and if possible with cover. He said ISLAND SPIRIT began awkwardly, he immediately allowed runners on his outside to cross him in the hope that they would provide him with cover. He said after this ISLAND SPIRIT proved very difficult to settle and raced with its head up. He said after the 1200 Metres he had hoped HAPPY KID would continue forward and he would be able to obtain a position behind that horse with cover, however, the rider of HAPPY KID continually restrained his mount and was causing inconvenience to runners on his inside He said as a consequence of this ISLAND SPIRIT continued to proved difficult to settle when racing wide without cover, he therefore elected to allow the horse to stride forward clear of HAPPY KID and race outside the leaders, but as a result he continued to race three wide without cover. The explanation submitted by R Fradd was accepted. DRAGON STRIDE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, DRAGON STRIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON STRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STAR OF SHANTOU, TELECOM SUPERBOSS and TSUNAMI were sent for sampling.
