Racing Incident Report
LIGHTING THE WORLD was withdrawn on 4.6.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LA MERVEILLE (A Delpech). Before being permitted to race again, LIGHTING THE WORLD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Whilst parading, LA MERVEILLE became fractious, ran backwards and broke through the running rail of the Parade Ring. Acting on advice from the Veterinary Officer that LA MERVEILLE had sustained a laceration to the right hind tendon and in his opinion was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. Before being allowed to race again, LA MERVEILLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. L'ENFANT bounded in the air at the start. WINNING WAYS was slow to begin. Near the 900 Metres, COSMO STAR was steadied away from the heels of GREAT STAR. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SPARKLE and FORTUNE MAPLE were crowded for room between SPEED OF LIGHT and GREAT STAR which momentarily shifted in. Making the Home Turn, L'ENFANT was awkwardly placed inside the heels of FAMOUS BRAND which was commencing to give ground. After the 400 Metres, TRI-STAR (Apprentice K W Tsui) shifted in and made contact with SPEED OF LIGHT. Shortly after this, TRI-STAR shifted out and caused crowding on its outside to BURST TO VICTORY. Apprentice Tsui was reprimanded and told he would be expected to exercise more care than he had shown on this occasion. After the 200 Metres, PRETTY DOUBLE, which was closing the race off, was steadied when having difficulty obtaining clear running between O' SHINY and SPEED OF LIGHT. Over the concluding stages, PRETTY DOUBLE improved through a narrow run between O' SHINY and SPEED OF LIGHT. In the Straight, SPARKLE hung out and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, FAMOUS BRAND, which was to be ridden in a forward position today, was obliged to race wide and without cover, then in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. FAMOUS BRAND was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, FAMOUS BRAND was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. The performance of FAMOUS BRAND was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FAMOUS BRAND will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. L'ENFANT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of L'ENFANT after the race did not show any significant findings. SPEED OF LIGHT, COSMO STAR and PRETTY DOUBLE were sent for sampling.
