Racing Incident Report
CHAMPION BOY and CUPID were slow to begin. GREAT SENSATION began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. ENORMOUS WAY began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, THISTLEJADE failed to muster speed, was then shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail and near the 2000 Metres was crowded for room by BARRACUDA which shifted in abruptly after getting its head on the side and hanging in. Also at the 2000 Metres, ENORMOUS WAY was steadied and shifted back behind DIVINE FEELING to a position on the rail. After the 700 Metres, BARRACUDA, which had been ridden along to maintain its position outside THISTLEJADE, was carried wider on the track as THISTLEJADE shifted to the outside of ENORMOUS WAY. Shortly after this, CUPID, which had been racing to the outside of BARRACUDA, was steadied and shifted back in behind that runner. In the early part of the Straight, CHAMPION BOY was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GREAT SENSATION. Near the 250 Metres, GREAT SENSATION was steadied when disappointed for running between THISTLEJADE and NATURAL ECHO. Over the concluding stages, CHAMPION BOY raced close to the heels of ENORMOUS WAY and because of this was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. Mr D A Hayes, trainer of DIVINE FEELING, which was having its first start over 2200 Metres tonight, explained he was unsure the race would be run at a reasonable tempo, it was therefore decided to have DIVINE FEELING ridden more prominently and then to start making his run after the 600 Metres in an attempt to steal the race. He said in future when racing over a distance of longer than 1600 Metres, now that DIVINE FEELING has shown it can be ridden in a prominent position, the riding instructions will be dependant upon the tempo at which he anticipates the race may be run. DIVINE FEELING and HAPPY CONTENDER were sent for sampling.
