Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, MAGIC MAIL became fractious and contacted the back gate of its stall with its right hock. The horse was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said after the necessary consultations it was suitable to race. RIVER DANCER and PRECISION began awkwardly. RAIDER was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, BULLISH LUCK, which had been slow to begin, was immediately taken across behind runners to a position on the rail but at the rear. G Mossé (ELEGANT FASHION) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CHEERS HONG KONG, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. RAIDER and RIVER DANCER, which were following, were hampered in consequence. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for G Mossé to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 14 March 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Saturday 28 February 2004. In the early stages, RAIDER and RIVER DANCER raced tight between CHEERS HONG KONG and PRECISION (M Kinane). M Kinane was advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to allow greater racing room to runners on his inside. Near the 900 Metres, MAGIC MAIL got its head up and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of LIBERAL'S CHOICE. After the 800 Metres, MAGIC MAIL, which was racing awkwardly, got its head on the side, lay in and was steadied away from the heels of LIBERAL'S CHOICE. At the 800 Metres, RIVER DANCER was checked away from the heels of PRECISION when racing tight inside BOWMAN'S CROSSING. On straightening, RIVER DANCER, which had been held up, was steadied and shifted to the inside of PRECISION to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, LIBERAL'S CHOICE got its head on the side and hung in away from HELENE VITALITY. In the Straight, ELEGANT FASHION and BOWMAN'S CROSSING hung out. For the major part of the race, DR MORE raced wide and without cover. G Schofield (RIVER DANCER) reported the bit on the horse broke near the 1200 Metres. RIVER DANCER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of RIVER DANCER after the race did not show any significant findings. BULLISH LUCK and ELEGANT FASHION were sent for sampling.
