Racing Incident Report
GOLD MASTER began awkwardly and shifted out. MY FORTUNE began awkwardly and lost ground. SANBENITO and TOY QUEST were slow to begin. MIRACLES and LUCKY GALLOPER bumped on jumping. At the 1300 Metres, PROGRESSING TIMES was steadied when crowded for room between MR COOL and OPERA MAGIC which shifted in away from NOBLE MAN. After the 1200 Metres, TOY QUEST was hampered when LUCKY GALLOPER which was proving difficult to settle shifted out. Near the 1000 Metres, MY FORTUNE was steadied to avoid the heels of MR COOL (D Whyte) which shifted in when only just clear after racing tight inside OPERA MAGIC. D Whyte was advised to exercise more care. After the 900 Metres, AGILITY, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied while awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOOD TRIO. After the 800 Metres, GOLD MASTER, which was hanging out, got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOY QUEST. At the 200 Metres, AGILITY, which had been inclined to be shifting out, was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE MAN which shifted in. Near the 100 Metres, OPERA MAGIC, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running between NOBLE MAN and STRONGHEART, steadied and shifted to the outside of STRONGHEART. Over about the final 100 Metres, AGILITY was unable to obtain clear running behind HAPPY PARTNERS and inside NOBLE MAN (A Delpech) which had its head on the side and continued to shift in. Because of this, AGILITY was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. A Delpech was told in similar circumstances he should make a greater effort to keep his mount straight. Throughout the race, STRONGHEART raced wide and without cover. S Dye (HAPPY PARTNERS) said he had been instructed to ride the horse forward and lead if possible. He said these instructions were consistent with those he had been issued when previously riding the horse. He pointed out when questioned two starts ago over 1200 Metres, the horse had been slow to begin and then was interfered with and consequently raced back near the rear. He said last start and again over 1200 Metres HAPPY PARTNERS raced in a prominent position and a little over a length off the lead, however, on that occasion travelled wide and without cover. He said today after beginning well he rode HAPPY PARTNERS along, when runners to his inside did not show much speed, he was able to cross to the rail in front without having to work hard to do so. He pointed out the increase in distance to 1400 Metres today had in his opinion contributed to HAPPY PARTNERS being able to lead. TOY QUEST, which tailed out, was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, TOY QUEST was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of TOY QUEST was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TOY QUEST will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, MY FORTUNE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MY FORTUNE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. AGILITY, HAPPY PARTNERS and NOBLE MAN were sent for sampling.
