Racing Incident Report

On jumping, MIGHTY POWER got its head up and lost ground. Also on jumping, PLEASANT JOURNEY shifted out and bumped KING OF SPADES. Shortly after this, PLEASANT JOURNEY was steadied when crowded for room between KING OF SPADES and KING ERIE. TELECOM CAESAR began awkwardly and threw its head about. Near the 1200 Metres, SMILING FOREST was crowded for room between WINNING EMPEROR and GETMORE DANCER which was carried in slightly by KID GALAXY. In the early stages, KID GALAXY and GETMORE DANCER proved difficult to settle. After passing the 1000 Metres, MIGHTY POWER got its head up and hung out. At the 800 Metres, SMILING FOREST was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GETMORE DANCER. PLEASANT JOURNEY, which was following and proving very difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of SMILING FOREST. Some inconvenience was also caused to KING ERIE. In the Straight, KING OF SPADES hung in. K McEvoy (SMILING FOREST) said in his opinion today's disappointing performance was due to the horse over-racing. He said when he had ridden SMILING FOREST over 1200 Metres, the horse had relaxed nicely for him in the run, however, today over 1400 Metres because of the slower tempo of the race SMILING FOREST would not settle. He said following the race he had advised Mr B K Ng, trainer of SMILING FOREST, that in his opinion it may be better suited to the tempo of the 1200 Metre races. SMILING FOREST was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, SMILING FOREST was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. WHATA FEELING and JUSTINIAN were sent for sampling.
