Racing Incident Report
PEPPERONI was slow to begin. WIN FOR ABALONE was slow to begin and then tailed out. The performance of WIN FOR ABALONE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WIN FOR ABALONE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DRAGON STRIDE began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. PRETTY TRIO began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, STAR WARRIOR and FELICITY bumped as a result of both horses shifting ground. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, FELICITY was checked and DRAGON STRIDE badly crowded for room inside DOUCAI which got its head up and shifted in abruptly when racing close to the heels of JOYFUL MASTER and tight inside MAJIN BUU. When FELICITY checked, inconvenience was caused to PEPPERONI. When DOUCAI lost ground as a result of this incident, inconvenience was also caused to SHOGUN and SURE FORTUNE. As the Stewards were satisfied this incident was not caused by the actions of any rider, no action was taken. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, SURE FORTUNE hung out and lost ground. On the latter part of the Home Turn, PRETTY TRIO was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FELICITY, then after the 400 Metres shifted to the outside of DRAGON STRIDE to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, PRETTY TRIO shifted out. In the Straight, DOUCAI hung in. DOUCAI was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. Mr S Woods, trainer of JOYFUL MASTER, said the horse had previously shown itself to be inconsistent. He said JOYFUL MASTER needs everything to work out during the running of a race for it to be able to perform. He said the day after the horse's last start it was reported to be stiff behind and this may have had a bearing on the horse's performance in that race. He said he was always of the opinion JOYFUL MASTER would be competitive in this type of race given the right run. A Marcus (GOOD LAD) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse behind what had been anticipated to be a strong pace in the race. He said he noticed in the recent barrier trial on the surface GOOD LAD had left the gates cleanly and raced with the lead. He said today GOOD LAD again began well, he had a look to his inside and decided to ride the horse forward to clear runners to his inside and cross to the fence in the lead as he believed this would be in the best interest of the horse. The explanation submitted by A Marcus was accepted. SHOGUN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DOUCAI and SHOGUN after the race did not show any significant findings. JOYFUL MASTER and GOOD LAD were sent for sampling. The Veterinary Officer reported that following the race GOOD LAD was lame in the left front leg. Before being permitted to race again, GOOD LAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
